We are all battling head colds over here and at night the past few nights I have had a pesky cough. Well, yesterday I made this onion cough syrup and last night my cough was gone. Wowza, I can’t believe how well this worked. I even took an extra tsp to bed in a shot glass in case I started coughing during the night and didn’t even need it.

I had all the ingredients right in my kitchen and it was super easy to mix up! And these salad dressing glass containers are PERFECT for storage and make pouring the syrup out perfect.

No wonder it worked so well. Onions are anti-inflammatory, stimulates the immune system, and act as an expectorant. And honey has been known for its healing properties for thousands of years and is used for its anti-bacterial properties.
Ingredients:
1 organic onion
12 oz. organic raw honey (local if you have it!)
Med saucepan
16 oz. jar
Optional ingredients: Add some garlic or cayenne pepper
How to make:
Slice 1 large onion into half-moons and place the slices into a saucepan.
Barely cover the onion slices with honey.
Warm on low heat until the onions are soft and mushy and the honey tastes strongly of onion and garlic.
Remove from the stove and let cool.
Store in a jar in the refrigerator.
How to use:
At the first sign of a cough, take 1/2 – 1 teaspoon every hour or two.
If you already have a cough, take 1 teaspoon 3 or 4 times/day to speed up your recovery.

Do not give to children under the age of 1.
